Visual Artists:
María Nélida ZAMORA (Nelly
Zamora): An art instructor as well as a singer and songwriter,
Zamora’s work has been shown at the International Center
for Contemporary Art in Paris, the South of the James Café
Gallery in Richmond, Va., and the Sovran Bank in South Boston,
Va. She received a master in fine arts and education degree
from the University of South Florida in Tampa. (Cintas for
art, 1976-77)
Amalia Zarranz (b.
Havana): Zarranz’s first
narrative short, TALLgirl, was screened at the Sundance
film festival and was included in a British Film Institute
tour. TALLgirl went on to the Regional Student Academy
Awards and aired for PBS on the 2004 series Colorvision.
She won a New Line Cinema Development award in 2001 to make Mercury
In RetrOgrade, which continues to screen in film festivals
worldwide. Her latest project is Social Life of Dogs,
a feature screenplay. Zarranz graduated from the American Academy
of Dramatic Arts and has a master of fine arts in film from
Columbia University. (Cintas for art/film, 2005-2006)
Ricardo
ZULUETA (b.
1962, Havana): A photographer, performance and installation
artist, Zulueta is the winner of grants and fellowships from
the New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Foundation
for the Advancement of the Arts, Art Matters Inc. and the
San Francisco Art Commission. He has had solo exhibitions
at the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art and Artist Space
in New York and at the Western Front in Vancouver, among
others. His work
was represented in the traveling exhibitions Expresiones
Hispanas 88/89, Fact and Fiction: The State of Florida Photography and CUBA‑USA:
The First Generation, among others, as well as in Romper
los Márgenes: Encuentro de Fotografía Latinoamericana in
Caracas, the Feria
Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo in Madrid and Breaking
Barriers. Selections from the Museum of Art’s Permanent Contemporary
Cuban Collection in Fort Lauderdale. His work is in the
permanent collection of the Miami-Dade Public Library. Zulueta
studied visual arts and arts policy administration at Florida
International University and New York University. (Cintas for
