Emilio Sanchez Award for Visual Arts

The category of "visual arts" may include painting, installation art, sculpture, photography, video art, and filmmaking. Artists may submit a maximum of 10 digital images. We will not consider work samples that exceed the maximum. Images submitted without a detailed image list will not be considered. Installation work may be accompanied by a DVD. For the purpose of historical value, the winner is expected to submit artwork to be added to the Cintas Fellows Collection.

Sculpture and Installation Art: At least two views of each work should be included. Ten images of at least 5 five different pieces should be included. A DVD of not more than three minutes of the sculpture in motion may be included only for work in which mechanical or kinetic motion is an integral component.

Photography: Photographers may submit a maximum of 10 images.

Video Art: For the purpose of this competition, video art is defined as a subset of artistic works which that rely on "moving pictures" and is comprised of video and/or audio materials. One of the key differences between video art and filmmaking is that video art does not depend on many of the conventions that define theatrical cinema, e.g. actors, dialogue, discernible narrative or plot, and other conventions that construct cinema as entertainment. A maximum of two work samples, no longer that six minutes each, may be submitted. Only video in DVD format is acceptable. Please indicate the running time of each piece submitted on the Work Sample Form.

Filmmaking: This category of applicants will be reviewed by a separate Film Committee. You may submit one or two works, either completed features or short films and/or works in progress. On the Work Sample Form, please specify clearly your contributions to the work (e.g. director, producer, writer, etc.) You must submit two copies of each video. Only video in DVD format is acceptable.
